Best Steak Marinades to Try This Spring

Spring and summer months are the perfect time to break out the BBQ and enjoy some of your favourite foods grilled to perfection, including steak. If you’re a meat lover then you’ve absolutely got to try adding a spicy rub to your steak!

Give these steak marinades a try to bring out the most succulent flavours!

Smokey Tomato Basting Sauce

Don’t be afraid of the tomato in this marinade – it won’t kill the favour of your juicy steak. Instead, it’ll just start to get increasingly mellow as it continues to simmer on your meats.

In a saucepan, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat, then add 2 diced garlic cloves and 1 small diced onion. Stir and cook until golden brown, usually about 3 minutes. Add 1 cup of minced and strained tomatoes, 1/4 cup of tomato paste, 3 tablespoons of apple cider, 3 tablespoons of vinegar, 3 tablespoons of molasses, 2 chipotle peppers, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon of mustard. Lower the heat and simmer for about 15 minutes until it becomes thick.

Add it to your steak as you’re cooking it, or marinade it for a couple of hours beforehand.

Universal Spice Rub

This easy and quick steak marinade is something that all palettes will enjoy. It’s so versatile that it can be used on just about any kind of meat, including your steak of choice. Even seafood flavours will come alive with a dollop of this universal spice rub!

In small bowl, mix together 1 tablespoons of paprika, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 2 teaspoons of garlic powder, 2 teaspoons of cumin, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of oregano, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, 1 teaspoon of pepper, 1/2 a teaspoons of dry mustard, and 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper.

You can use this right away, or even keep it stored in an air-tight container to be used for up to three months!

Mediterranean Spice Mix

It’s easy to add rich authentic Mediterranean flavour to your steak with this delicious rub. Follow this recipe to bring out the best in your grilled meats.

In a small bowl, mix 3 tablespoons of dried rosemary, 2 tablespoons of ground cumin, 2 tablespoons of ground coriander, 1 tablespoon of dried oregano, 2 teaspoons of cinnamon, and 1/2 a teaspoon of salt. Rub 2 tablespoons of this mix per 4 servings of meat, cover and refrigerate for a minimum of 4 hours, and up to 12 hours.
