4 Awesome Summer Appy Ideas

If you’re tired of making the same appys over and over again, don’t fret. We’ve got some delicious and unique appetizer ideas that will be perfect to serve at your next BBQ!

Lettuce Wraps

This Asian-inspired appy will have everyone drooling while not being too heavy. They’re also a great way to show off any lettuce that you may be growing in your backyard! If not, supermarket lettuce will do. The best part about this dish is that you can essentially put anything in there, such as a rice and beef mix, fried veggie medley, tuna or salmon, or steamed chicken breast slices with your favourite sauce. Consider using romaine lettuce as it is hearty and strong enough to resist falling apart.

Beef Pops with Pineapples

This appetizer will surely impress your guests! Simply grill some beef steaks and pineapple slices, dice them, and set aside, ready to be skewered. In a food processor bowl, combine parsley, vinegar, a garlic clove, chill flakes, olive oil, salt and pepper, and blend until smooth. Place the diced beef and pineapple in the bowl and coat them thoroughly. Skewer one piece of beef with one piece of diced pineapple, alternating until the end of the skewer.

Bruschetta

A classic appetizer, bruschetta is simple and affordable to make. You can make the tomato topping before hand and store it in the fridge until you’re ready to serve. In a bowl, combine diced tomatoes, chopped basil leaves, salt, olive oil, and chopped red onions, and mix together. Slice a French stick into 1/2 inch thick pieces. When you’re ready to serve, throw the bread onto the grill for a couple of minutes on each side until they’re perfectly toasted, then top with the tomato mixture.

Spicy Chicken Bites

Chicken wings are always a welcome and delicious appetizer, but if you want to put a spin on this classic dish, try serving spicy chicken bites instead. Simply grill your favourite cut of chicken, then cut them into bite sized pieces. Coat them in your favourite spicy sauce, and poke them with a toothpick for easy grabbing. Serve them with a homemade cream cheese dip with chopped herbs like chives, basil, thyme and parsley.
